Finnish producer Tontario first made a name for himself in the blogosphere via top charting remixes and later joined the Anjunadeep ranks in 2016. Tontario has since explored various styles of nature and texture-inspired atmospheric electronic music, gathering millions of online streams and performing across multiple countries alongside artists like Above & Beyond, Yotto, and Lane 8. You can also find his more ambient-focused music under the alias För Alltid.

In partnership with Tontario this month (ends July 31st 2024 11:59pm GMT), we’re giving away an exclusive Minimonsta2 preset pack, “Syvät Tunteet”, designed to inject deep emotions into your tracks.

Tontario, who also contributed to OB-X‘s sound design, kindly agreed to answer a few questions.

How would you describe the Minimonsta2 pack?

This pack is a great blend of sounds for every genre, especially ambient and techno. It combines more traditional sound design techniques with some more creative ones. Most of the presets are great for darker styles of music.

If you listen to my music, I think you can hear that I’ve designed the presets as well. I have always been drawn to more cinematic and atmospheric sounds. Imperfection and randomness inspire me a lot, and I try to implement them in my sound design.

I hope they can inspire people to evolve the presets into their own sounds.

Which of your Minimonsta2 patches do you consider your personal favourite?

I really like ‘Dark Beginnings‘ and ‘Floating Reality‘, both quite basic and playable patches that I feel easily blend into any song. I think that is also an important part to think about when making synth patches since you easily fall into the process of making the flashiest sounds possible.

Is there anything, in particular, you liked about Minimonsta2?

I like the GUI; it’s simple and straightforward. The X-LFO section is also great

Do you have any tips for getting great-sounding patches?

Sound design for me is pretty much just trial and error. Less is more. A lot of subtle modulations that add up and make a huge difference. I don’t have any go-to techniques but I love all kinds of parallel filter modulations and every kind of noise, so those usually end up in my patches.
